Hazrat Maulana Jameel Ahmad sb. (1934-1996)

Life & Service:

Hazrat Maulana Jameel Ahmad sb. was a resident of Mujahidpur, a village, district Saharanpur, which is located in the north of Saharanpur. He was born in 1934 A.D. in his hometown, Mujahidpur. He came from the Gada community, which is one of the famous communities in this area.

Education:

He received his early education in Mujahidpur. Then he enrolled at Jamia Islamia Reerhi Tajpura, a well-known Islamic seminary in his area, and studied Persian course as well. Then, for getting higher education he visited Mazahir-Uloom. At that time, Maulana Asadullah sb. was the Head of Teaching Staff (Hazrat Nazim sb.) of Mazahir-Uloom. He was a man of profound knowledge, pious and far-sighted. Hazrat Nazim sb. used to pay great attention to him. His affection and attention were concerned to a special incident. Maulana Jameel sb. said that Nazim sb. had a great taste in Urdu literature. He had a special interest in correcting the language and using the right words. Once, Hazrat Nazim sb. gave a hemistich of poem to the classmates and said that those who could compose couplets, should compose in the same pattern the next day. Maulana Jameel sb. said that some of the students created two, three or four couplets, and I made 46 couplets in.
Nazim Sahib listened to everyone's couplets. At the end of the class session, he summoned me to his room and said, ''This is your room from today. Your lodging and fooding will be here, "then pointing to his books he said, "These books are for you to read."
Maulana used to say that the whole period at Mazahir-Uloom was spent in the auspices of Hazrat Nazim sb.

Teaching:

After graduation, he became a teacher at Madrasa Qasim-ul-Uloom, Tewra, Muzaffarnagar. He served there for two years as a teacher. Then in 1957, due to approaching of Hazrat Mohtamim (Maulana Haneef) sb. he was appointed as a teacher in Madrasa Khadimul-Uloom Baghonwali. Allah had endowed him with various abilities. His intellectual ability was unparalleled. Great scholars of the time had acknowledged his abilities.
Several times, he was approached for teaching by Darul-Uloom Deoband, but he would say that Darul-Uloom would get many other scholars but who would get Khadimul-Uloom?
He made great sacrifices to set up a good management as well as to bring education on the right track. He used his managerial skills beautifully. Due to his abilities, he was promoted to the position of Nazim-e-Taleemat, just a few days after his appointment.

Conducts and Characters:

He had very good manners. He met every man with a smile. He took great care of the students, mainly, the poor and needy ones, and helped them as well. He was highly qualified at Islamic studies, Hadith, Qura'nic Exegesis, jurisprudence. In short, he was an expert at every Islamic art & science. He was very punctual; came to class on time, and performed the worship and recited of the Holy Qur'an whole heartedly. He was skillful at administrative affairs. And despite all these virtues and perfections, he lived a very simple life. He never showed off. He always kept himself away from mummery & affectation.
His personality was a great blessing for Khadimul-Uloom Madrasa. He dedicated his whole life to the development of Madrasa. The acts which he has performed are the golden chapters of the history of the Madrasa. His constant efforts & struggles gave a new impetus to the Madrasa.

Pledge of Allegiance:

He got the pledge of Allegiance from Hazrat Maulana Shah Abdul Qadir sb. Raipuri, successor to Hazrat Shah Abdul Rahim sb. Raipuri. He had been associated with Hazrat Raipuri since his student days.

Last days of life:

He performed Hajj in the 90th decade. Later on, his condition worsened. He had fallen ill before two years of his death succeeding that he was affected with several diseases. Once, in 1995, his condition worsened to the point that there was no hope of his survival. But Allah Almighty healed him and his health was restored to a great extent. But, he may have realized that his end was near. Therefore, he started visiting the famous and ancient Martyrs' cemetery in Baghonwali. Furthermore, he decided a place for himself in the graveyard.
In 1996, he was taken all again. Repeatedly he was saying ''no one knows what will happen in the grave." This situation lasted and On Thursday, at 4:40 pm, October 10, 1996, he left his heavenly abode.
